1. PROJECT FOR THE DEFENSE OF THE HUMAN AND LABOR RIGHTS OF
FLORICULTURE WORKERS
Start of the project: 2005
General objective
Contribute to that the work in the flower sector is decent, fair, safe, and that the right to freedom of association is respected.
Specific objectives
-
Flower workers become salaried workers and understand their
human rights and labor rights under Ecuadorian law and
international conventions.
-
Reduce impunity that results from a lack of information and
control.
-
Train workers, authorities, and companies on labor rights and
human rights.
-
Establish social monitoring coalitions with consumers,
producers, and governmental institutions, to improve labor
relations and promote social and environmental standards in the
flower industry.
-
Sign agreements with local universities to contribute to the
technical and professional training of flower workers.
Activities
-
Organization of meetings with workers for information-sharing
and capacity-building to reduce the risks of working in the
floral industry.
-
Training, specifically on labor rights, so that floriculture
workers can have free consultations and can decide to present
complaints and questions.
-
Development of written complaints in our legal support centre
for the workers (complaints regarding unpaid wages and
unjustified dismissals, eg. due to pregnancy).
-
Editing of a magazine presenting current and future activities
and presentation of a weekly radio column.
-
Establishing contacts with the Labor Inspectorate in Cayambe,
the Ministry of Labor in Quito, the Ecuadorian Social Security
Institute, the International Labor Organization (ILO), the Labor
and Social Commission in the Ecuadorian Congress, human rights
organisms, and other relevant organizations.

Reporting complaints ballots to employers who have not fulfilled
their obligations, notifications of job resignation, etc.

2. PROJECT PROMOTION OF TOURIST SERVICE MICRO ENTERPRISES,
TOGETHER WITH THE NATURE RESERVE CAYAMBE-COCA
Start of the project: 2004
Main objective
Ensuring decent living conditions for the population and
boosting employment, by creating opportunities in the midst of
cultural diversity and multi-ethnicity and encouraging
innovative environmentally friendly industry.
Specific objectives
-
Economic sustainability of micro enterprises for tourism
services.
-
Generating employment opportunities (especially for women
and youth).
-
Obtaining tourist services with eco-development
characteristics.
-
Generating high-quality environmental services.
-
Generating ongoing training programs (for guides,
coordinators, micro enterprises for tourism services).
-
Second order: tripartite program for road maintenance.
Activities
-
Meeting with organizations
to launch a campaign for the preservation, conservation and wise
use of natural resources (soil, water and air).
-
Training on issues of self
esteem / self-improvement, micro management and organization of
tourist services, for the financial sustainability of the
project.
-
Research the opportunities
and weaknesses that accompany the development of sustainable
ecotourism.
-
Encourage farmers and
residents in general to become involved through family labor or
seasonal hiring (neighbors and friends).
-
Organization of excursions
and walks with groups of students, children, young people,
social groups, visitors and tourists.
-
The provision of tourist
facilities and services.
